MCPS teachers participate in tennis groundstroke training

Teachers at the training learned new activities and tips for teaching tennis to their students.
Schools can effectively offer PE with tennis sized right for age and ability and no courts are required.
On January 9, 2014, more than 120 physical education elementary school teachers from Montgomery County Public Schools participated in tennis groundstroke trainings during their Elementary Physical Education Teachers' Countywide Meeting. The meeting was held in the indoor tennis bubble located at Montgomery TennisPlex. Teachers had a choice to attend either a morning or afternoon session, where they learned new activities and tips on teaching forehands and backhands to their students utilizing non-traditional space and the 10 and Under Tennis equipment. The instruction was led by Alex Chan, USTA/Mid-Atlantic Section Maryland Tennis Service Representative, with assistance from Patrizio Allendes, a tennis coach from Montgomery TennisPlex. All teachers received information on Montgomery TennisPlex and USTA programs and resources, such as Kids' Tennis Clubs and USTA organizational memberships.
