2012 National Team Selection Process

In 2012, the USTA/Mid-Atlantic Section will select players for the BG16s Intersectional Team and the Boys’ 18s and Girls’ 18s National Team Championships as follows:

BG16s Intersectionals: Players must indicate their intent to qualify (and commitment to the team) by registering online. The team will be determined by a round robin format play-off of 8 players – 7 from the Mid-Atlantic Standing List (dated 5/15/2012) and 1 wild card. If no wild card is awarded, the 8th player will be selected from the Standing List. For each gender, 2 groups of 4 based on the waterfall method. The top 2 from each group form the team – the line-up is determined by National Ranking.

This qualifier competition will be played on clay courts, May 19-20, 2012.
 
After the team is determined, if a player must withdraw, their spot will be filled from the remaining players who participated in the play-off. The player with the highest rank on the most current National Standing List will be selected.
In the event a play-off can not be held, the selection will be based on the May Final Ranking List. 

BG18s National Teams: Players must indicate their intent to qualify (and commitment to play if selected to the team) by registering online. The 2 finalists from BG18s June Sectional Championship earn automat selection to the team. A Single Elimination Play-off Draw will be hosted to determine the remaining 4 positions. The play-off will be a draw of 12 players (4 seeds): 10 from the MAS Standing List generated immediately following the June Sectional Championship + 2 Coaches Commission 2 Wild cards. 2 rounds will be played and the 4 semi-finalists will be selected.

After the team is determined, if a player must withdraw, their spot will be filled from the remaining players who participated in the play-off. The player with the highest rank on the most current National Standing List will be selected.
 
In the event the play-off can not be held, the final 4 team members will be selected based on the Standing List generated following the June Sectional Championship.
