Top Ranked Mid-Atlantic Juniors Are Excelling Nationally

Section Has 5 Top 10 U.S. Players

The USTA/Mid-Atlantic is well represented with many top-ranked juniors.

This success is not limited to the top of the age bracket as there is a player ranked nationally in the top 50 for all age groups and with the exception of Boys’ 14, there is at least one player ranked nationally in the top 20.

The accolades don’t stop there, as five of the age groups have a player ranked nationally in the top 10. The Boys’ 18 lead all age groups with four players in the top 50 while the Girls’ 16 lead all the girls’ groups with three players in the top 50.

Denis Kudla and Mitchell Frank represent U.S. junior tennis as the top two American boys with ITF junior rankings of No. 5 and No. 7 respectively.

Beatrice Capra and Junior Ore are both top 10 recruits for the Class of 2010, according to tennisrecruiting.net.

Ore, who in addition to being the No. 7 ranked recruit in the nation for the Class of 2010, is the 20th ranked international junior player.

When asked to explain the success of the Mid-Atlantic juniors, Ore responded, “We all have dreams on becoming the best. And we don't like losing to each other and we all push each other to the next level.”

It appears that the competition and desire to be the best is contagious among these talented young players. Because of this, Ore is confident that “tennis fans will see quite a few [pros] from DC” on the ATP tour in the upcoming years.

Ndindi Ndunda and Skylar Morton are both nationally ranked in the top five in their respective age groups; Ndunda is the fourth ranked Girls’ 12 player and Morton is ranked fifth in the Girls’ 16 group.

Class of 2013 phenoms, Luca Corinteli and Spencer Liang have also made a splash on the national scene. Corinteli is currently the top ranked Mid-Atlantic Boys’ 14 player and ranked 47^th in the nation while Liang leads the Mid-Atlantic Girls’ 14 as the 7^th ranked player in the nation.

What makes these juniors even more impressive is that they all play or are from the USTA/Mid-Atlantic Section.

Despite being one of the smallest sections of the USTA—the Mid-Atlantic region only has 38,157 members (It is ranked ninth of the 17 Sections. Southern has 184,692 members)—the Section is no stranger to success at the junior level.

Judging from these rankings and the dedication from these young players, the USTA Mid-Atlantic section sure has a hand in the bright future of American tennis.
