The 2010 High School Coaches Workshop will feature on-court drills, information on setting your line-up, and round-table discussions on best practices and fundraising.
The High School Coaches Workshop, sponsored by the USTA/Mid-Atlantic Section, will last from 8 a.m. check-in to 5 p.m., emphasizing What College Coaches Look For in Players, Singles and Doubles Strategy, Tennis Rules, Picking a Team, Teaching Large Groups, and Team Drills.

Paul Fisher Bio
A Pennsylvania native, Paul Fisher he started for four years, three at the No. 1 singles position for Hershey High School. During his college years, he began his tennis teaching career at the Hershey Community Center.
While he pursued a music performance career as a member of the elite United States Air Force Concert Band, he continued playing on USAF Tennis Teams. Participating in service tournaments; he was invited to the All USAF Tennis Camp on several occasions.
During those years, he became involved in the Burke Centre tennis community, helping to form the Burke Centre Tennis Association. Fisher has directed the BCTA Junior Tennis program since 1989; his teams had a five year undefeated streak.
In 1993, he was asked to join the Robinson High School Tennis Team as coach. The Rams Boys have captured 16 district titles and 7 regional titles, reaching the state finals in 2001. He has been selected several times as Patriot and Concorde District and Northern Region Coach of the Year by his colleagues and in 2005, was given the State Tennis Coach of the Year award by the Virginia State High School Coaches Association. In 2007, the Professional Tennis Registry awarded him the Jim Verdieck award, the symbol of the Nation’s top High School Tennis Coach.
In 1995, Fisher assumed the position of Tennis Director at the Burke Racquet & Swim Club. He oversees the tennis program as well as directing his own group of clinics, coaching women’s teams, organizing the extensive junior tournament series, and stringing rackets.
Fisher is certified by the Professional Tennis Registry. In addition, he earned the certification of a Master Racquet Technician from the United States Racquet Stringers Association.
Todd Helbling Bio
One of the most successful men's tennis coaches in the nation, Todd Helbling has brought the University of Mary Washington program to an elite position among NCAA Division III tennis in his 10 years at the school. Helbling has led the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament in each of his 10 seasons, including in 2008, when the Eagles tied a school record with 22 wins en route to a 22-7 overall mark.
An excellent player in his own right, Helbling is a 1989 graduate of Millsaps College in Jackson, MS, where he was nationally ranked in both his junior and senior seasons. After earning team captain and MVP honors at Millsaps, Helbling received his master's degree in sport management from the University of Massachusetts in 1990. He was then hired as assistant men and women's tennis coach and head men's soccer coach at Washington (MD) College, helping the Sho'men men's team capture two NCAA Division III National Championships. Helbling then moved on to Slippery Rock University, and led the women to their best-ever record of 13-6.
In the spring of 1999, he was hired at Mary Washington, and has left an indelible mark on the history of the program, long known as one of the best of UMW's 23-sport contingent. When asked of the possibilities at UMW, Helbling is naturally optimistic. "There is an opportunity here to be one of the top programs in the nation, given the school's academic excellence, the beautiful campus, and the opportunity to play year-round at a first-class facility."
Don Paitrick Bio
Don Paitrick is the Director of Tennis at the University of Mary Washington Indoor Tennis Center.
Paitrick brings to UMW, the city of Fredericksburg, the state of Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic Section over 25 years of coaching and playing experience at all levels. He has directed programs at clubs in Tampa, Florida, Jackson, Mississippi, Westhampton Beach in Long Island, the Hopman / Saddlebrook Tennis Academy and the Bollettieri Academy in Florida.
“It’s been my pleasure to have had the opportunity to coach and train players, junior and adult, at every level. From ATP and WTA professionals to college, high school and entry level juniors as well as adults from beginner to tournament level, they’ve all had unique and rewarding challenges. Being a member of the USTA High Performance Coaching Team, it is very important, that at all levels, players have a well constructed map of improvement for success and enjoyment.”
Paitrick has served as a Tournament Director for the USTA Women’s $50,000 Pro Circuit Championships, the Boys/Girls Southern 16’s Open Championships, numerous junior Challenger and Champ level tournaments and USTA Adult Tournament and League Championships. He has also directed successful celebrity weekends with Nick Bollettieri, Luke Jensen and ESPN sportscaster and writer Dick Schaap on ABC TV.
Paitrick is the Chairman of the USTA/Mid-Atlantic Tennis on Campus (TOC) Committee and serves on the USTA National TOC Committee.
Alicia von Lossberg Bio
Alicia von Lossberg has done it all in tennis. She has worked in Vermont, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, South Carolina and Maryland teaching and coaching tennis.
After graduating from college, she worked as an Assistant Pro, Head Pro, Tennis Director, Division I, II & III college coach and now she works for the USTA. She has been a certified teaching professional with the PTR since 1977 and is considered a charter member. This USTA National Recreational Coach Trainer is also certified to teach and coach wheelchair tennis.
"I have coached nationally ranked players, an All-American, several Academic All-Americans and nationally ranked teams," von Lossberg said. "I have had players participate in NCAA tournaments. I have played tournament tennis myself at the state, section and national levels."
She started working with the USTA in South Carolina. Currently, she is the Community Tennis Administrator for USTA/Maryland and is responsible for all community-based programs (Jr. Team Tennis; School Tennis; No Cut Coaches; Tennis On Campus; QuickStart Tennis; Recreational Coach Workshops and NJTL-National Junior Tennis League).
"I am also responsible for teaching and educating coaches, coordinators, and physical-education teachers statewide," von Lossberg added.
In addition, she has owned and operated Blue Ridge Tennis Camp from 1984-1994. In 2004, she won the PTR member of the year award for Maryland. Then she received the Volvo Tennis ITA/ USTA Community service award in 1989.
Her tennis career began in high school. Forty years later, she has achieved so much in tennis. She has done it all.
Kim Dillard Bio
Centreville High School tennis coach Kim Dillard will lead a round-table discussion in setting your line-ups, including challenge matches and doubles partners.
Dillard is the Physical-Education Teacher at Deer Park Elementary School in Fairfax County, Virginia and is the tennis instructor at Virginia Run, Sequoia Farms, and Sully Station Racquet Cubs.
He is a USPTA Master Professional and PTR certified member. He has been playing and teaching tennis for more than 40 years.
He has presented many seminars at the USPTA World Conference, including the 2009 Conference in Marco, Island, FL. Dillard presented a workshop at the VAPEHRD Convention in Virginia Beach, VA, in November 2009. He was on the faculty of speakers at the USTA National Conference in conjunction with the US Open in New York.
Dillard Kim published his first book “The Doubles Connection, How to be a Better Doubles Partner” in 1998.
Dillard has served on the Wilson Advisory Staff since 2001.
Mike Lissner Bio
Mike Lissner will demonstrate the on-court drills that focus on tennis stroke progression and how to add tennis strokes to a player's game at the Mid-Atlantic High School Coaches Workshop.
The Maryland resident has been teaching tennis since 1975 and holds the USTA High Performance Certification.
He is a United States Professional Tennis Association Professional 1 and Competitive Player Development specialist.
Lissner has held national rankings in Men’s 40, 50, and 55 Singles and Father/Son Doubles.
He is the former head professional at Wellington Racquet Club in Huntington, N.Y.; former Head Coach at John H Glenn High School in Elwood, NY; and played college tennis at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan.
Lissner is also the father of a competitive junior player and is serving on the Mid-Atlantic Junior Competition Counsel.
