Foundation Overview
Mid-Atlantic Tennis & Education Foundation, Inc. is a charitable non-profit organization headquartered in McLean, Virginia. The President of the Foundation is Robert L. Bunnen Jr.
The Foundation supports and encourages the development of programs that stress the importance of education, health, good citizenship, good sportsmanship and high performance for youth within the Mid–Atlantic Region.
The Mid-Atlantic Tennis & Education Foundation, Inc. encompasses all of Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia and portions of West Virginia.
The Mid-Atlantic Tennis & Education Foundation, Inc. provides scholarships, financial aid, and tennis opportunities to individuals in the Mid-Atlantic region regardless of race, creed, or color. There is an income criteria necessary to qualify for financial support.
The Mid-Atlantic Tennis & Education Foundation, Inc. has awarded more than 175 scholarships and grants since 1989. These scholarships and grants help to fund programs that improve the quality of life for youths, minorities, and physically and mentally challenged individuals.
Individual Scholarships The Winter Tennis Scholarship is awarded to players between the ages of 10-15 who desire to continue their tennis training throughout the winter season.
Individual Grants for High Performance Youth Awarded to highly ranked players wishing to participate in the USTA/Mid-Atlantic sectional competition or National/Super-National events in the United States or abroad.
President’s Service Award This honor is given to those who have committed to lifetime service to MATEF’s mission. The two most recent recipients of this award are Fred McNair and Elaine Freeman.
Hall of Fame The Mid-Atlantic Tennis Foundation, Inc. established the Mid-Atlantic Hall of Fame to recognize outstanding individuals that have participated, contributed or supported tennis in a significant way in the Mid-Atlantic region.
