2009 Tennis Camp Scholarships Available
The Mid-Atlantic Tennis & Education Foundation, the grant-giving arm of the USTA/Mid-Atlantic Section, partners with 4–Star Summer Camps at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia; William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia; and the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia, to provide an academic plus tennis summer experience to with household incomes under $60K.
The Foundation is offering full scholarships to children who match this criteria.
Participants get a taste of university life as they are staying in the university’s dorms, eating in the cafeteria, taking classes in the same classrooms as university students, and walking through the university’s beautiful grounds.
Students participate in three enrichment classes each morning.
Afternoons are devoted to tennis instruction — small group instruction (4:1), match play, and private lessons.
Evenings are spent having fun in a supervised setting, participating in such activities as putt–putt golf, field games, a party, ice cream social and karaoke.
These residential camp programs include housing and meals, classroom instruction and materials, tennis instruction, and evening activities.
The Summer Camp experience is second to none in the quality of instruction, superb supervision by a caring staff, and fun–filled evening activities — an experience that will last a lifetime.
If you have any potential campers in your program that meet the criteria above, please print all the mandatory forms and send or fax them to:

Here is a letter from one thankful MATEF camper:
Dear USTA,
“Thank you for letting me attend the camp. While I was there, I learned a lot. You have improved my serve and my backhand. I am now on the USTA tennis team. Thank you very much for making me better. I hope I get to come back next year. It was very fun even though it was very hot.”

Sends Most Kids Ever to Camp
200 Attended Virginia and Maryland Camps
In 2008, Mid-Atlantic Tennis and Education Foundation (MATEF) continued its outstanding camper program at our five partner camps, including 4 Star Tennis Academy on the University of Virginia campus; City of Roanoke Parks & Recreation; Regency Sport & Health Club in McLean, VA; Junior Tennis Training Center (JTTC) in College Park, MD; and the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg.
Board members Suzy Kelly and Chris Tran coordinated more than 200 campers, most ever in MATEF history and five times the number of campers just four years ago.
Since 1992, MATEF has provided camp experiences for more than 1,200 at-risk youth ages 13 to 18.
Board members are actively seeking tennis and education partner camps in Baltimore, the Eastern Shore and the Hampton Roads areas.
The Mid-Atlantic Hall of Fame induction dinner netted a record-setting $40,000 for the Mid-Atlantic Tennis and Education Foundation’s summer tennis camp programs, which has provided funding for more than 1,200 youths.
Former District of Columbia Mayor Anthony Williams, USA Fed Cup and Olympic Captain Zina Garrison, and USTA Chairman and President Jane Brown-Grimes were among the VIP guests at the sold-out gala of 230 attendees.
Emcee Elise Burgin, a 2003 Mid-Atlantic Hall of Fame member, introduced the inductees.
